ARTIST BIO

I am a Hobby Artist who has loved art all my life and painted intermittently as life's other demands allowed. Since retiring from work as an Occupational Therapist in Mental Health, I decided it was my time to really follow this love of drawing and painting and see what I could do.

Whilst working, I had attended classes with Wildlife Artist, Janet Matthews at one time, with my focus on pastel paintings of wildlife and landscapes.

Just after I retired the Covid epidemic started, restricting my options considerably. I turned to some online tutorials and wandered the Internet picking up information and skills and enjoying my exploration into acrylic painting.

When able, I returned to Janet's classes using colour pencils and began learning more systematically about drawing, including colour theory, composition and technique. I stayed with Janet for a couple of years and tried my hand at birdlife drawings, family pets and my a portrait of my little grandaughter and her pet cat. Concurrently I continued my acrylic painting at home.

Wanting to join an Acrylic class, I joined Peninsula Artists Society and a class with Julie Goldspink, which I valued greatly.

My acrylic paintings are mostly inspired by nature and the beauty of landscapes and coastal scenes. I gathered reference photos from my travels around Australia, visiting many of our National Parks. My eye is drawn to the wilder places where nature creates the scenes with stunning artistry of forms, textures, colours and light.  From big visions down to delicate detail there is so much to appreciate and love. I have now filled my walls with paintings and with the nudging of family and friends, thought I could try exhibiting a few and see what happens.  Enter Galley 247 and a new adventure.
