ARTIST NOTES: 'To Infinity' I chose this image from a selction which was part of group painting class designed to explore advanced techniques with painting including brush handling and edges and taught by artist Ben Howe. I was drawn to the child’s expression, a mix of fear and wonder. It evokes a sense of vulnerability and the vastness of the unknown universe beyond our reach. This unsettling tension draws the viewer in to explore up close the details of the surface. I painted the child in a highly realistic style that borders on photorealism, starting on a bright orange imprimatura that creates a cohesive base to build upon.I concentrated on creating beautiful defined but soft edges and improving my brush handling a skill which I intend to bring to all my future paintings.
